With the help of emails from other hikers, this weeks discussion around the fire pit stays a little more focused on backpacking. Rylan and Golden have a backlog of comments, innovative gear, food ideas and hiking adventures they work on again. This weeks album art is supplied by "Grimmace" from his trip in the Pemi Wilderness. Another food site is mentioned for some backpacking meal possibilities; Bruce Foods. Kat from Washington state has sent in some excellent logs of a few of his hikes. Those will be posted as soon as the new site is up and running but for now a few of his pictures are shown below. These coastal shots looked like they were hiking on lava. They were taken at or around Cape Alava, the Western most point on the continental United States.
The SouthEastern Backpackers were corrected again this week. Recently some information was spread on the show that coffee could add to dehydration. Paul, a new friend in Scotland sent in an article disputing that. The article claims that to dehydrate some from coffee consumption one must consume quite a bit of coffee. Since we aren't carrying large quantities of coffee on the trail adding to our dehydration turns out not to be an issue.
