50 - Banana Protectors PDF Print E-mail

Now in the second year of podcasting the holidays are over, the year is under way and the SouthEastern Backpackers are back to more serious talks. Although the topic wasn't food or trail tips there sure were a lot of little ideas to make hiking easier. Trail food ideas came up again and again. Dane & Connie (Tagless and Tagalong) have found the hamburger helper kits easy to prepare while camping. Dane had two good suggestions with Taco Bell sauce packets. 1) Easy bean burritos. Dry the beans at home and while on the trail rehydrate them, roll them up in a tortilla with cheese and add some Taco Bell sauce. 2) Soft beef taco wraps. Dried ground beef from home re-hydrated on the trail with cheese and Taco Bell sauce in a tortilla. Whenever John in Vegas takes Boy Scouts hiking he carries extra bean burritos just in case they are relying on a meal that just won't work. He wraps refried beans in a tortilla and foil and thoroughly freezes it before the trip. John claims these will last deep in the backpack for a few days and he said everytime he has taken them they've all been eaten up on the trip.

This weeks album art comes to us from Tater. The banana protector is designed to prevent your bananas from getting all bruised up. Rylan and Golden haven't trail tested it yet but write in if you have! At the end of this post are pictures of Sourdough and his son Sidewinder at the end of their AT thru-hike together. Tagless tells us it was a life changing trip for both of them. Tagless also passed along this web site for Pinhoti trail maps and information and he shared some handy info for washing clothes on a backpacking trip too. Take a large freezer bag, add the laundry, hot or warm water, a little camp suds and swish it and work it all around. When the wash cycle is finished wring out the laundry, add fresh water, work it around again and hang it up to dry.

Enjoy The Trail!
