After a brief break from podcasting the show is back on but it has little to do with backpacking. Rylan was invited to join some local guys on an Alabama river boating trip and this episode is the second discussion of that adventure. The others had done this before in rubber rafts but since Rylan didn't have a boat he borrowed a canoe from his old boy scout troop and the canoe wound up being the best boat out there. It could go faster with less paddling giving Rylan and Donnie the ability to explore more of the river. The canoe maneuvered more easily also giving Rylan and Donnie a sense of better paddling skills than they really had. That false sense of skill landed the canoe sideways into Rylan's Rock where Rylan was ejected from the boat!
Six in all participated in the three day rainy, rainy weekend and all are ready to do it again. The trip took place well into the "back woods" of Alabama and the locals made for a large part of the story too. The meals are discussed along with Rylan's tarp and hammock. The tarp wound up being one of the most used pieces of camping equipment. As the rain came in everyone gathered under the tarp with their chairs and when it quit they all spread out again. With all of the rain this was a regular activity all weekend. The hammock was a superb piece of equipment also in providing Rylan a comfortable place to hang around during the storms.
