Snow hiking

I do a lot of solo winter hiking. I think it is really exciting. The winter smells in the air tell you a lot about the animals that are around you. A coyote gives off a distinctive wet musty odor when its fur becomes whet by the snow. A deer odor from wet fur has another distinctive odor and bears have another. If you hike with other people you don't get close enough to experience those smells. A part of nature only a few people experience.

Gadgets, you make solo hiking sound very enticing. I've never thought of it that way. I guess you do experience a level of nature alone that the groups might miss.

I do like solo hiking. I actually enjoy spending my day alone. What gets to me is being alone at night. Having enjoyed so much of the day, I just want to socialize and share my experiences with others. Back in October, I had so much fun every night, talking with new friends at the shelters. But then, I have a reputation for being a talker. Got in trouble for that all the time back at school!

Hey Rylan! Great podcast with Shug. He is hilarious. Love him on the Hammock forums. Glad to see you've fully converted into a hammocker.

Like a good trail - sometimes you get even more pleasure when you wander off the beaten track a bit - it's the same listening to you and Shug and the changes in direction are always worthwhile.
Thanks
